The wait is almost over, Second Sight Films is close to releasing Robert Harmon's horror thriller The Hitcher (1986) in a couple of months. This particular physical release was already eagerly anticipated when this blog was created, so it's been a while.
The premise of the film is a cautionary tale as to never pick up a hitch hiker or they just might be a psychopath like the one an unlucky C. Thomas Howell picks up.
Rutger Hauer will always be remembered as the killer android Roy Batty in the sci-fi classic Blade Runner (1982) and those old Guiness ads, but many seem to forget, or are just unaware of, his mesmerising performance as the sadistic, serial killer John Ryder. Sean Bean was never able to match it in the forgettable 2007 remake.
The original The Hitcher has aged like fine wine, but I can't say the same for C. Thomas Howell's other 1986 film, though.
Remember the shitty sequel too?
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely copping that 4k.
Counting my blessings having never seeing the sequel.
ReplyDeleteThe Hitcher is going to look so good in 4K. Can’t wait.
